A stand alone device that provides the visually impaired user with a listening experience, of printed matter, using naturally sounding voices.
The URead comprises a cuboidal platform with an attachable camera resembling a lamp. It functions as a standalone device, reading documents in natural-sounding voices without requiring a connection to a smart device or the internet.

To set up, position the cuboidal platform with tactile buttons in front of you. Then, connect the camera cable from the attachable camera to the rear of the cuboidal platform. Secure the three screws, followed by attaching the document clip screws.

For operation, plug the power cord into the wall socket, turn on the power switch, and press the 'O' button or the topmost button on the keypad for approximately two seconds. Upon hearing the power-on tune, a message will announce the device's readiness. Place the book or document on the platform and use button A for user A, button B for user B, and button C for user C. Select English with button A, Hindi with button B, and regional languages with button C. Press button B to read a book and button A to read a document. A tune will play during scanning, and users should refrain from disturbing the document on the platform. The current page will convert to text and then to audio. After placing the next page, press A. Reading can be paused and resumed by pressing the 'A' key. Adjust volume with plus or minus keys and change speed with up or down keys. To turn off the U reader, press the 'O' key for about two seconds until the power-down tune begins. Wait for 30 seconds to switch off AC power.

This device is valuable due to limitations in traditional resources like Daisy books and Braille books, as well as the lack of essential features in many mobile apps. With its advanced features, the device promotes independence for individuals with visual impairments, featuring tactile buttons and audible menus to guide users through each process. Notably, it can read multi-column pages, offers USB session backup, and operates independently without relying on external connections like Wi-Fi and smart devices. Another significant advantage is the device's ability to support up to three users and compatibility with all major Indian regional languages.
