Guide to Setting Up a School Resource Room for Blind Students

A useful resource room should support literacy, mathematics, access to printed material, digital learning, mobility and recreation. Start with the students’ ages, Braille proficiency, curriculum and devices already used in class.

Core learning resources

Access to print and digital content

Mobility and recreation

Include white-cane practice equipment where mobility instruction is provided, along with accessible games and sports products that support participation and social learning.

Before procurement

  • Record the number of students, age groups, preferred languages and current skill levels.
  • Check device compatibility, included accessories, warranty information and staff training needs.
  • Plan how equipment will be issued, charged, cleaned, stored and maintained.
  • Choose a smaller starter set first when needs are still being assessed.

Browse assistive technology and TLM kits for blind students. Schools, NGOs and institutions can also review institutional purchasing information or request a quotation.
